A Word from T.A.Barron...

On the day my dad died, a little miracle happened to my family. It happened thanks to my children, who couldn't quite understand where their beloved Grandpa had gone.

It originated from one small question from my five-year old daughter: Where is Grandpa? You see, Grandpa had been so richly present, in so many places, that it was hard to imagine life without him.

Yet even though he seemed so very far away, my children learned they could still be with him by remembering all the special times and great places they had shared with him in Colorado-in the tree house looking at the Never Summer Mountains, in the backyard playing horseshoes, at the waterfall listening to the many voices of the river, and at the kitchen table carving pumpkins. By doing this, our whole family discovered a surprising answer to their question. We realized that Grandpa really wasn't so far away after all, that we could still find him somewhere in our hearts.

During our time of grief, I also made my own discovery: I became aware of some of the resources available to families coping with the loss of a loved one. I am hopeful that the resources I have listed on the following pages might be helpful to you...and those you love.

In addition, I wrote a little book about my family's experience-to share our discovery with others. It's called Where is Grandpa?, after my young daughter's question. I am donating part of the proceeds from any sales of the book to the national Hospice organization.
